Hands for Maternal and Child Health Uganda was formally established on 21st January 2024 by Dr. Kiyimba Ibrahim, Dr. Mugerwa Rogers, and Eng. Muganga Yusufu, following a humanitarian tour across the scattered islands of Kalangala District.
The founders were moved by the dire conditions faced by pregnant women, newborns, and children — many of whom lack access to basic health services, skilled birth attendance, emergency care, or any health education whatsoever.
What began as volunteers transporting expectant mothers by personal boat grew rapidly into a grassroots movement — then into a registered NGO with over 450 members, 40 leadership staff, and a team of volunteer health professionals, doctors, midwives, and educators.
