Kalangala's 84 islands are served by only 13 health facilities — none of them equipped with neonatal care units. Women in labour must travel by unstable fishing boat to the mainland, often arriving too late. By September 2026, HMCHug will construct and operationalise two fully equipped, solar-powered community health clinics on selected high-need islands, each with a delivery room, postnatal ward, pharmacy, and basic diagnostic tools. These facilities will be officially registered with the Kalangala District Health Department and staffed with trained midwives and clinical officers.
Every year, each clinic will serve as a vital lifeline for over five thousand women and children within the islands. This ensures that vulnerable populations who previously lacked any medical access can now receive professional primary healthcare, regular checkups, and emergency maternal services right in their own community.
Our strategic goal is to raise three hundred twenty five thousand dollars to complete the construction and full equipping of two modern health clinics. This investment covers everything from structural building and solar power installation to advanced medical machinery, ensuring these facilities are ready to save lives from day one.
Our specialized suites offer a safe, clinical environment for childbirth, replacing dangerous home deliveries. Every facility provides continuous postnatal monitoring and is equipped to manage obstetric emergencies, ensuring both mother and baby receive immediate professional care during the most critical hours.
Dedicated spaces are designed to provide life saving neonatal care for vulnerable infants. These areas are equipped to manage common but high risk conditions such as birth asphyxia, low birth weight, and neonatal sepsis, giving newborns in remote islands a fighting chance at survival.
Each clinic maintains a fully stocked pharmacy to ensure no patient leaves without necessary treatment. We provide a reliable supply of essential medicines, maternal nutritional supplements, and a full range of voluntary family planning contraceptives to support community reproductive health.
Reliable diagnostics are available on-site to facilitate rapid treatment decisions. Our lab services include routine HIV testing and counseling, malaria rapid diagnostic tests, hemoglobin level assessments for anemic mothers, and obstetric ultrasound scans to monitor fetal development and identify complications early.
